本文僮要回顾建筑设计院在中国特定条件下的发展历史，谈论其中国特色，并希望由此特色发展出适合我国二十一世纪国情的建筑设计体制。     

Fingerprint technology gathers momentum

Security conscious businesses in today's networked world not only look for new, improved ways to safeguard highly sensitive information, but also ways to detect or prevent intrusions, or theft of personal and company bank or credit cards, which can lead to sometimes catastrophic financial losses. Most computers and automatic teller machines still rely on personal identification numbers or passwords, things that can be stolen by a clever criminal.     

A block iterative finite element algorithm for numerical solution of the steady–state,compressible Navier–Stokes equations

An iterative method for numerically solving the time independent Navier–Stokes equations for viscous compressible flows is presented. The method is based upon partial application of the Gauss–Seidel principle in block form to the systems of the non-linear algebraic equations which arise in construction of finite element (Galerkin) models approximating solutions of fluid dynamic problems. The C⁰-cubic element on triangles is employed for function approximation. Computational results for a free shear flow at Re = 1000 indicate significant achievement of economy in iterative convergence rate over finite element and finite difference models which employ the customary time dependent equations and symptotic time marching procedure to steady solution. Numerical results are in excellent agreement with those obtained for the same test problem employing time marching finite element and finite difference solution techniques.     

Air Drying Kinetics of Potato Cylinders

An experimental air tunnel dryer was used to investigate the kinetics of moisture transport in potato cylinders (Solanum tuberasum). Acoordingly, the experimental results, represnting only falling-rate drying behaviour and hence. dehydration completely controlled by internal mass transfer, were interpreted on the basis of Fick's diffusional model for non-stedy state radial diffusion. The effects of air velocity and temperature on the drying rate were studied. with he temperature being the principal controlling factor. Analysis of the drying curves by the method of slopes resulted in a variable effective moisture diffusivity. Shrinkage as a function of moisture content under various drying conditions was investigated. The volumetric shrinkage of the samples was affected mainly by air velocity. whilst air temperature had a negligible effect. Good agreement was obtained between the experimental apparent density data and the predicted correlation.     

Quantitation of Nizatidine in Capsules Using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography

A stability-indicating high-performance liquid chromatography method for the quantitation of nizatidine in capsules has been developed. The method is accurate and precise with a percent relative standard deviation of 0.34 based on 6 readings. A number of inactive ingredients present in the capsules did not interfere in the assay procedure. The recovery from the synthetic mixtures was quantitative. The extraction procedure from the capsules is very simple. The drug appears to be very sensitive to bases (such as sodium hydroxide) since 100% of the drug decomposed on boiling for 35 minutes. The drug was very stable when boiled with sulfuric acid.
